Abandoned cruise ship!!
Bahamas Celebration in Freeport, Bahamas on 11/28/14.
Narrated by yours truly.
Story for the hearing impaired;
The ship was leaving port during a storm and refused to accept the local pilot. Pilots are brought on board most ships entering into or leaving ports because they know the exact path into and out of the port where the ships are able to travel without catching on the bottom. See where this is going?
Because the captain refused the pilot, he ran aground as he was taking the ship out of the port, and this ripped a large hole in the bottom of the boat. The ship was forced to return to port and was siting there empty when we were there for our cruise (Carnival).
This ship was a daily transport from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas, and a very large source of day-tourism income for the Bahamas.
We were told the story by a local taxi driver.
